One of the deadliest attacks since Moscow began a full-scale invasion in February 2022 has killed at least 51 and injured more than 200, according to Ukraine’s Prosecutor General’s Office. The attack aimed at a military training facility in the country’s central region.
Initial reports earlier on Tuesday concerned two ballistic missiles hitting the city of Poltava and a hospital facility nearby, according to President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Zelensky said in the statement that those who could help him to prevent such terrorism should send air defense systems and missiles to Ukraine, adding they were needed not somewhere else but exactly in our country.
The head of the military administration in Poltava region, Filip Prokopenko said on Telegram that teams were still working to clear debris and retrieve bodies. Yousaf noted that officials think 18 others are still buried beneath the debris.
In Poltava, at least 10 residential buildings were damaged. While Moscow has remained tight-lipped about the incident, a prominent Russian military blogger, Vladimir Rogov, revealed on Tuesday that Russia had bombed Poltava’s academy.
President Zelensky urged Kyiv’s Western allies to supply more air defense and let Ukraine strike inside Russia after the attack was expected. He highlighted that long-range strikes against Russian terrorism are needed directly, not later, as each day of delay tragically costs lives. Source
