Tesla Slashes North American Jobs To Just 3 Out of 3,400

Date:

If Elon Musk’s Tesla is your dream electric car company, you will have to contest for one of just three listed United States jobs.

As per Quartz Analysis for archived pages, “this week, the electric car manufacturing company Tesla slashes over 3,400 job postings in North America to just three. The now-axed roles, which were typically in California, Texas, and Nevada, were registered on Tesla’s official jobs page as newly posted yesterday.”

The appointment freeze follows one of Tesla’s most challenging quarters. The company experienced a major wave of layoffs and saw the departure of at least six executives.

In a string of successive setbacks, Tesla’s first-quarter revenues fell short of expectations across the board. Moreover, the company had to recall nearly 4,000 Cybertrucks and became involved in a price competition with Chinese electric vehicle opponents who joined forces against them.

Even the three remaining positions at Tesla, though labeled as full-time roles, do not appear to be typical full-time jobs.

These positions are part of Tesla’s “manufacturing development program,” a training initiative lasting from seven to 16 weeks at community colleges in Texas and California, aimed at helping participants transition into full-time Production Associate roles.

The Nevada version of this program is listed as an internship, with a shorter duration of four to six weeks, according to Tesla’s website.

Tesla recently rescinded summer internship offers shortly before their start dates. On Tesla’s website, there are 28 job listings in Europe, primarily for positions at Tesla’s Brandenburg Gigafactory in Germany. No positions are posted for other regions outside Europe.

There seems to be a inconsistency between Tesla’s career page and its LinkedIn profile. On social network LinkedIn last Thursday, Tesla advertised 35 openings, with three in the US and the other 28 somewhere in Europe. Furthermore, new roles were added for the Dominican Republic, with job descriptions recorded in Mandarin.

Last month, Tesla declared plans to decrease its staff by over 10% of its 140,000 workers. However, according to company sources, the actual number of workers who may be let go could surpass 20,000.

Business Insider’s request for comment outside of standard business hours to Tesla went unanswered at the time of reporting.
